Nintendo's newest entry in the "Zelda" franchise, "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," is one of the best titles for the series, especially in terms of graphics. While natively running at 720p or 900p depending on the console used, some folks are finding ways to bring Link's newest adventure in 4K, albeit in a not-so-legal way.
Some dedicated programmers are working on the "CEMU" emulator that is designed to play Wii U games on the PC since 2015. And just a few days after being released, a version of "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" has been shown to be running on the emulator. According to Kotaku Australia, while it has already broken some boarders, "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is still quite far from being playable.
A lot of things are being worked on for the "CEMU" version of "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," as a video showing the game is running at a clunky 10-15 frames per second on a i7-4790K, GTX 780-powered PC. Exzap, one of the programmers working on the emulation, has stated that several bugs are hindering the playability of the title, like physic glitches, water collision and some rune abilities. It also does not help that at the time the video was shown, no audio was included because it was all white noise, PC Gamer reported.
No timeline has been given as to when a fully-playable "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" will be available, as a lot of research is needed for emulation. Exzap, however, has suggested that it could take between several weeks to some years for a good-running "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" to take place. The wait would be worth it for sure, as CEMU games have been known to run titles in 4K wonderfully.
"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is currently available for Wii U and Switch.
