Ever since the arrival of TV in our houses, it has been introducing us with new and unique trends and educating us simultaneously. The main functions of TV will always remain entertainment, dispersing information, education, and awareness, but some shows and channels have managed to incorporate all of these in one place too. You should check with the available cable TV service provider or dial Xfinity, Cox, Mediacom or Spectrum customer service phone number to compare their services and prices.

Sparks Socialization

Social media has introduced the "Watch Party" and other features that encourage us to watch content together online. Back in the days, watching TV after a long wait was a thing, now live streaming is in the mainstream. Not too long ago, TV content has stirred debate amongst fans where they interacted online on Facebook and Twitter to comment on the episode, series or movie - which is still being practiced.

The TV and internet engagement is quite fascinating - you just don't know which one scene, gesture or dialogue will become viral online. The TV is more than something we watch in our rooms, alone, discuss at the workplace and comment online. Even when we are not following a particular show or missed out on anything, we might find something online discussing that.

Influences our eating habits

Cooking shows like "The French Chef", "The Frugal Chef "MasterChef" to name a few, such shows are introducing some new or unknown ingredients, culinary arts, eating habits according to the season and popular trends. By making the masses familiar with various types of foods and cooking styles, TV is indirectly influencing our eating habits in so many ways. Not to forget the advertisement content on our TV screens endorsing food in multiple ways also tend to influence our eating habits and cravings.

Shapes our morals and values

You don't have to watch American TV only to get your morals and values shaped. Surround yourself with cranky people, and you will notice changes in your behavior in a few days. The same is the case with surrounding yourself with well-behaved and educated people, it will reflect in your behavior. Watching anything on TV is also no different, you learn morals and values from other cultures too, provided you are consuming their content whether text or visual. Jim Taylor, Psychologists, Ph.D., believes that reality TV shows as "The Apprentice" encourage their viewers to pursue success regardless of its cost. The rise in cheating on school level, sports, and corporate greed indicate that American value and moral are declining and we can somewhat credit reality TV shows for that.

Obesity

Obesity is a matter of concern in the US, particularly if we talk about child obesity which is of greater concern, risk and alarming at the same time. The correlation between child obesity and binge-watching TV cannot be overlooked. However, restricting children with a certain time and encouraging them to play outside also plays a vital role. Excessively watching TV exposes kids to thousands of marketing campaigns annually, most of them endorsing junk food and unhealthy eating habits. Children tend to indulge in unhealthy choices while watching TV too like snacks at odd hours, delaying food and so many more shifts disturbing their overall health.

Affects your marriage

According to a research published in the mass communication journal in 2012, TV shows like "Two and a half men", "Mad Men" and the likes where extramarital affairs are shown, endorse less committed marriages as TV reflects reality in many ways. The 390 couples in long-term relationships noticed their partners possessing negative traits and not very committed to their relationship.

Final Thoughts

Television has altered our daily life in a good way, as long as it not being consumed excessively. From informing us about the happenings and preparing us for the future, TV has influenced our language, culture, eating patterns, relationships with family, friends, and significant others to a great extent. Like everything else, we should focus on moderation and pick the best part of what it has to offer.
