Greg Berlanti Reveals if 'Arrow', 'Flash', 'Supergirl' Crossover Can Happen This Year

Arrow and The Flash have been building a DC television universe with crossovers on the CW, and fans really let their imaginations run wild when Supergirl debuted on CBS. But can a crossover among them happen this year? Greg Berlanti, the man behind all three shows, reveals the status in a new interview.

Berlanti spoke at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California on Sunday, and TV Line reported his words about a crossover.

"Unfortunately, you're going to get the same answer that I always give, which is that, as a fan, I would love it," he said. "I personally never rule anything out. I would be excited by it. But a lot of things would have to go right, people would have to say yes, for that to happen."

Crazier things have happened on television, especially with crossovers, than two or three shows on different networks sharing characters and/or stories. This is a special case considering it's one man behind all three shows and the characters all belong to the same company, DC Comics.

Berlanti also noted that to make it happen before the TV season wraps up in May, "it would have to be figured out in the next month or so."

So what are some of the problems? For starters, there are the ever-present "financial hurdles," as well as the challenge of getting all the network executives to sign off on the crossover.

But from a creative standpoint, there's also the problem of a certain red and blue superhero.

"You haven't been hearing about Superman [on Arrow/The Flash], and Superman exists in [Supergirl's] world, so we'd have to figure out a way around that," Berlanti said before adding that the writers have a few ideas as to how to get around that issue.

Finally, Berlanti said that the writers and producers have kicked around how cool a crossover would be, but there have been no official discussions about making it happen.
