'Mozart In the Jungle' 2016 Golden Globes: Gael Garcia Bernal's Rodrigo Wins Best Actor Award!
Season 2 of Mozart in the Jungle is already available for streaming Amazon. With the first season gaining critical acclaim, the show itself and star Gael Garcia Bernal (Rodrigo) get to take home their much-deserved awards from the 2016 Golden Globes.
During the first season, realizing funds are at an all-time low, board chairwoman Gloria (Bernadette Peters) makes a bold decision by replacing the older conductor Thomas (Malcolm McDowel) with the younger maestro Rodrigo (Bernal). A newbie oboist Hailey (Lola Kirke) tries to find the passion within herself as she unexpectedly catches the eye of Rodrigo.
As we previously mentioned, the Amazon show has been nominated for Comedy or Musical Series. Gael also earned himself a nod for Actor in a Comedy or Musical Series, competing against, Aziz Anzari (Master of None), Rob Lowe (The Grinder), Patrick Stewart (Blunt Talk), and Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent).
During the award ceremony, Bernal thanked in his speech, "To all the people that find music and common ground for communication, for justice for happiness."
According to Entertainment Weekly, the win came as a surprise because critics expected a Transparent repeat. The two wins though marks two consecutive awards in each category for Amazon, after Transparent's Best Comedy and Jeffrey Tambor named Best Actor in a TV Comedy last year.
Bernal describes working with the streaming service, "We never get kind of hindered or restricted by anything. We get complete creative freedom, and that is such a luxury nowadays. To be able to experiment, to change things, to play around, it's lovely."
In an interview with People, the Y Tu Mama Tambien actor explains where he's going to keep his award, "with my kids' toys because that's the safest place."
Season 2 of Mozart In The Jungle is available to stream now on Amazon.
