Making a Murderer's Steven Avery has a new lawyer following the success of the show, and she's "confident" that his murder conviction will be overturned. Avery is currently in jail for the murder of photographer Teresa Halbach. The Netflix hit details and presents evidence of Avery's proposed innocence.

New lawyer Kathleen Zellner, who specializes in reversing wrongful convictions, says of her new client, "We are continuing to examine every aspect of Mr. Avery's case."

Zellner mentioned in a statement that "new evidence" is what is leading her to be "confident" in the overturning of Avery's conviction, saying that she plans to present the new evidence to "the appropriate court."

One of Avery's original attorneys, who features prominently in Making a Murderer, Dean Strang, told The Wrap new "leads, ideas and possibilities" have been sent to him in waves since the docu-series aired in December.

This news comes after Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker implied that he would not be pardoning Avery. After petitions to President Obama to pardon Avery reached the necessary 100,000 signatures, President Obama also said he would not be pardoning Avery, due to the fact that that he does not have jurisdiction in the case.

Since the release of the series on Netflix, both sides of the case have been on the defensive. The prosecution claims that the docu-series is one sided and leaves out key facts, while the defense and creators of the show continue to stand by the series and proclaim Avery's innocence.

A follow-up of the series is set to air at the end of January as part of Investigation Discovery's Front Page series. Front Page: The Steven Avery Story will be hosted by Dateline NBC host Keith Morrison. According to a network release, the goal of the follow-up special is to "better inform viewers in light of the nearly 300,000 people calling for the release of Steven Avery."
