'Batman: The Killing Joke' Set To Premiere In San Diego Comic-Con 2016
2016 appears to be the year of The Joker, as the villain is set to get another big screen treatment courtesy of Jared Leto's chilling appearance in Suicide Squad. In addition to that, the animated adaptation of Alan Moore's highly-acclaimed graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke has just been confirmed to debut this year at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con!
The Killing Joke executive producer Bruce Timm recently attended the Wizard World Comic-Con in New Orleans, where he admitted to ConTV that they had to make some necessary adjustments on the highly anticipated film.
"The one big difference about it, as opposed to those other projects [The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 & Part 2], is The Killing Joke... the source material is really not long enough to make an entire feature film out of," Timm admitted. "So we actually had to add a lot more story to it, which is tricky, but I think we came up with a really good solution on how that worked."
That doesn't mean that the graphic novel doesn't have any good material. The Killing Joke might just be a one-shot comic book, but it provided what is now known as The Joker's official origin story as a struggling comedian, who eventually becomes Batman's ultimate nemesis. In addition to that, the story also covered Batgirl's paralysis, which leads to her second identity Oracle.
Now that fans know that Batman: The Killing Joke will feature some additional material, Timm also has some good news.
"We're actually going to be premiering it at San Diego Comic-Con," he confirmed.
Batman: The Killing Joke will be the first R-rated Warner Bros. film and it has its share of celebrities. The Clown Prince of Crime will reportedly be voiced by longtime Joker voice actor Mark Hamill, while Bruce Wayne will be played by another Batman veteran Kevin Conroy. The two actors have recently been reunited, as evidenced by a photo on Conroy's Twitter account.
SDCC 2016 will run from July 21 to 24, so expect Batman: The Killing Joke to debut anytime during these dates.
