'Twin Peaks' Season 3: What We Know About Showtime's David Lynch Revival Sequel

After more than two decades of television absence, David Lynch's iconic and short-lived series Twin Peaks is releasing its season 3 in the early months of 2017. Starring Kyle MacLachlan reprising his role as FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, the show, currently in production and thought as a mini-series, will air on Showtime.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the President and CEO of Showtime, David Nevins, recently appeared at the Television Critics Association's press tour, and he dished a little further about what to expect from the revival of the cult series. For example, he revealed a key piece of information: Lynch has already shot about half of the series, and it will be ready to air in early 2017.

"It was stupendous. It was incredibly exciting," said Nevins, when asked if he'd seen the footage of what's been shot so far. "I don't want to sit here and overhype it, but I was incredibly excited. You definitely felt like you were in the hands of a master."

The show is currently being kept under heavy secrecy, but one thing is clear: the show's being made, as it should be, by the original creators. Lynch is directing every single episode of the new mini-series, and the story comes from one long screenplay he wrote alongside Mark Frost, who co-created the original Twin Peaks with him.

Frost was recently part of a few Q&A's, including questions from Deadline and TV Line, and while he mostly remained cryptic about the project, he did share that they'd brought back "as many of the old familiar faces as possible" besides a few new ones.

Among the new ones, there's Les Miserables actress Amanda Seyfried, who will be playing the role of Becky, currently unknown. James Belushi, from According to Jim, has also reportedly been cast in a role. Still, Showtime is keeping tight-lipped about the casting: there's a new policy, created by Lynch, to keep fans as much in the dark as possible about the project.
