Malcolm Jamal Warner, Regina King Split: 'Community' Actor Leaves Heartbroken 'Southland' Star and Her Son, Ends 2-Year Romance
Malcolm Jamal Warner and Regina King have ended a more than 2-year romance and leaving King "heartbroken." The two met in the 1980s while working on "The Cosby Show" and have been friends ever since. Reports of the two dating started back in 2011 with rumors of a marriage proposal as well. Warner and King, both 42 years old, shot those rumors down and tried to keep their relationship private. But now Warner has decided to leave King, saying he "wasn't feeling it anymore," and asked her and her son from a previous marriage to move out. This apparently blindsided the "Southland" actress.
According to a source close to the now ex-couple:
"She thought this would really last for good, they were so close as a family. They knew each other forever and then out of nowhere he dumped her. She's still confused and hurt and doesn't know what happened."
In a rare occurrence, King spoke to Parade magazine in 2012 about her relationship with Warner, saying, "I believe the universe has a plan, and we probably wouldn't have been ready years ago. We both had to do whatever we had to do to be ready for each other now."
And in 2011, King told Essence: "Malcolm and I have a lot in common. We've both been child actors and were also blessed to be raised by incredible mothers who instilled good values in us. Things are maturing nicely."
Supposedly a better time for the couple, also in 2011 Warner told BET: "We like to protect what we have because it's very special and very precious . . . But I will say that it's a relationship that makes all the sense in the world."
Regina King has a son with Ian Alexander Sr. whom she divorced in 2007 after 10 years of marriage. Malcolm Jamal Warner has never been married and has no children.
