Laura Dern Confirmed For 'Twin Peaks' Revival With Kyle McLachlan
It has long been rumored that Laura Dern is in negotiations to appear in the highly anticipated revival of the hit 90s TV series Twin Peaks, but the long wait may finally be over. The Citizen Ruth star has reportedly been confirmed to join her former Blue Velvet costar Kyle McLachlan in the David Lynch TV drama!
According to TV Line, Dern will join a growing number of new Twin Peaks talents which includes Prison Break's Robert Knepper, Mean Girls star Amanda Seyfried and Lord of the Flies actor Balthazar Getty. Sheryl Lee, who played the murdered high school student Laura Palmer in the original series, and Sherilyn Fenn are also returning to reprise their roles in the revival.
It's no surprise that Dern would be cast in Twin Peaks. After all, she has collaborated with Lynch in several projects including Wild at Heart and Inland Empire, where her performance received critical acclaim. Lynch had obviously enjoyed her performance so much that he even campaigned for the actress to be nominated for an Academy Award. However, his campaign involved an unfortunate live cow and did not earn a nomination for Dern.
But who will the Golden Globe awardee portray in the Twin Peaks revival? According to TV Line, Dern has been cast as Agent Dale Cooper's secretary Diane, a character who has often been referred to but never actually appeared in the original series. Agent Cooper usually addresses Diane when he speaks into his microcassette recorder and the character is one of Twin Peaks' longest running mysteries along with Laura Palmer's murderer.
The Twin Peaks revival has long been delayed but has reportedly already started shooting in Washington. The TV show is expected to air on Showtime by summer 2017.
