The BET network is firing back after Fox correspondent Stacey Dash said that "we need to get rid of channels like the BET and the BET Awards" in order to end segregation. BET Networks Chairman and CEO Debra Lee made a statement Wednesday in regards to the comments.

Lee took issue with Dash's comments regarding the proposed Oscar boycotts, which in part said, "We have to make up our minds. Either we want to have segregation or integration. If we don't want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the [NAACP] Image Awards, where you're only awarded if you're black."

Dash went on to call these networks and shows "a double standard" and further saying that there should not be a black history month because "we are Americans, period."

Lee stepped up to defend her network, saying that for 35 years, the BET network has given "African Americans and lovers of black culture" a place to "see themselves represented and celebrated."

She continued, "African American contributions to American culture are countless and we cannot and should not wait for anyone to acknowledge them - we have to do it ourselves and we are proud that we can do our part."

The BET twitter account has also gotten in on the fun, tweeting out things such as, "Every Time Stacey Dash Proved She Was Clueless," in reference to the former actress' work in the film Clueless.

The network also asked Dash if they could "get their money back" for picking up Dash's show The Game from the CW.

All of the hoopla stems from an outrage over the lack of representation of people of color in this year's Oscar nominees. No people of color were represented in the four acting categories for a second year in a row, prompting use of the hashtag #OscarsStillSoWhite and public outrage.

Several big-name stars such as Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith, Spike Lee and more have stated they are boycotting Hollywood's biggest awards show.
