Amanda Knox Case Reopened [VIDEO]: Italian Supreme Court Orders Retrial in Meredith Kercher Murder, Twitter Reacts

Amanda Knox and her then-boyfriend Raffale Sollecito were convicted of the 2007 murder of 21-year-old British student Meredith Kercher, Amanda's roommate. In 2011, they appealed the convictions and were both set free. Now Italy's Supreme Court has overturned that acquittal and has ordered a retrial in the murder case. Sollecito and Knox have just signed respective book deals and Amanda was set to appear in a Diane Sawyer interview in April.

Amanda currently attends the University of Washington, where she say up until the early hours of the morning the hear today's verdict. After hearing about the new trial, she released a statement saying:

"It was painful to receive the news that the Italian Supreme Court decided to send my case back for revision when the prosecution's theory of my involvement in Meredith's murder has been repeatedly revealed to be completely unfounded and unfair."

She added that the case must now be handed over to a "capable prosecution" and "re-explored by an objective investigation. No matter what happens, my family and I will face this continuing legal battle as we always have, confident in the truth and with our heads held high in the face of wrongful accusations and unreasonable adversity."
