Bollywood director Karan Johar is making his directorial comeback after three years with Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starring in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. In a recent interview, he was asked about his bond with Shah Rukh Khan and said that he considers Khan as a part of his family.

Johar made his directorial debut in 1998 with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and after its success, Johar and Khan worked on four other films together: Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Na Ho, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and My Name is Khan.

After the success of the latter, there were reports that Johar and Khan parted ways from working with one another. Things started to turn sour when Khan was reportedly absent from Johar's TV show, Koffee With Karan.

In an earlier report from NDTV Movies, Khan's place was filled by none other than his that time friend turned foe superstar, Salman Khan.

Johar, who recently released his biography, An Unsuitable Boy, made appearance at the Jaipur Literature Festival and when a reporter asked about his current relationship with Khan, Johar said that he understands that there are ups and down in every relationship but whatever happens in his life, he will always consider Khan as a part of his family.

The filmmaker was quoted by Indian Express as stating:

"Shah Rukh Khan is very much a part of my family. He hasn't fallen on the wayside. Shah Rukh his wife and three children will always be family and a large part of my life."

Johar also acknowledged that his relationship with Khan and his family has always remained very strong and it is not possible for them to part their ways.

"I don't deny there have been ups and downs. But this connect is so strong, the love that I have for him and his family his very strong. All relationships have ups and downs," he further added.

After co-producing Student of the Year with Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment, Johar and Khan have again collaborated on English Vinglish director Gauri Shinde's untitled project in which Khan will be sharing screen space with Alia Bhatt for the first time.
