Steven Moffat 'Doctor Who': Here's Why The Showrunner Is Leaving The TV Series
Steven Moffat has been the executive producer of Doctor Who for the past 6 years, and although he might not be the first, he is certainly the most memorable showrunner for the series. It was recently announced through Twitter that Moffat is stepping down from his position, but there was no explanation provided. So why did Moffat decide to step away from Doctor Who?
Moffat and BBC have yet to open up about the decision, but fans already have their own speculations on why the showrunner will end his run with Series 10. There are rumors that Moffat may have gotten tired of listening to complaints about the direction he's been taking the show in the past few years and decided to just leave Doctor Who with another creative mind like Broadchurch's Chris Chibnall.
There are also speculations that Moffat may have decided to focus on other projects, most particularly the fourth season of Sherlock. The show that features Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as John Watson will hopefully start production this year and is expected to air sometime in 2017.
Although it is highly unlikely that the headstrong Moffat would ever be affected by what fans have to say about his creative direction for Doctor Who. There is a possibility that he wants to focus on other projects, but not necessarily Sherlock Season 4. After all, the fourth series of Cumberbatch's modern sleuth is expected to air around the same time as Doctor Who Series 10, so Moffat probably has his eye on other projects in the horizon.
Doctor Who Series 10 will air in Spring 2017, around the same time as the premiere of Sherlock Season 4.
