Girls Basketball Team in Minnesota Kicked out of League for Being too Good
When it comes to youth basketball, apparently it's possible to be too good--as a high school aged girls basketball team in Minnesota recently found out. The result: they were kicked out of the league and told to go find a nice parking lot to play in. OK, the latter part may not be true--one can only speculate--but they were in fact kicked out of the league for being too good.
On Friday night, the Rogers Area Youth Basketball Association team's players families were told of the decision to oust the team from the Northwest Suburban Basketball League. They cited a "high skill level," as the reason to do so.
"We found out Friday at lunchtime that we're not going to be allowed because according to the league our girls were too talented," coach Jason Hanauska told Fox News.
The team was 3-0 before being booted from the league. The decision came just ahead of the league's 3-on-3 showcase for girls of high school age.
Sherri Palmgren, a team parent, offered a little perspective, saying, "This is absurd. Do we take the (NFL's) Patriots or Cardinals, who are going to the championship game, and kick them to the curb because they're too good?"
The answer is no, Sherri. No we do not. (In case anyone missed it, both the Patriots and Cardinals lost their respective conference championship games. Perhaps Sherri's words had something to do with it? Conspiracy theory, anyone?)
Tessa McCarthy, a member of the "my team is so much better than yours that it got kicked out of its own league," voiced her thoughts.
"Are we supposed to play worse just to make them happy?' McCarthy asked.
Again, the answer is no. No you are not. This is sports, after all. There is always going to be a winner and a loser. It's as simple as that. If you're don't like losing, work harder.
