Mick Jagger Twitter Announcement: Rocker Confirms The Rolling Stones Are Playing Glastonbury Festival 2013, Arctic Monkeys, Mumford and Sons Also Headlining Summer Concerts
The 2013 Glastonbury Festival just got a whole lot bigger. The Rolling Stones have just been confirmed for the 2013 Glastonbury Festival after weeks of speculation. The festival will also be featuring the Arctic Monkeys and Mumford and Sons this summer. The festival is scheduled to take place June 28 to 30 in the U.K.. Fans must be very excited that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and the rest of the Rolling Stones will be rocking out in England this summer.
Mick Jagger tweeted out the news on Wednesday when he said, "Can't wait to play Glastonbury. I have my wellies and my yurt." Over 200 artists are expected to perform at this year's concerts, with bands such as Phoenix, the Smashing Pumpkins, Vampire Weekend, and the Lumineers performing. The Glastonbury Festival began back in 1970 and has become one of England's most popular music festivals. Festival organizer Emily Eavis was understandably thrilled to get the Rolling Stones to perform. "It is about as big a coup as we ever thought would be possible,"Eavis told The Guardian. "It is something we never thought we'd be able to pull off - a dream booking. We've tried or talked about getting the Rolling Stones to play Glastonbury throughout my entire life - I can't remember a year it hasn't been wished upon."
The news of the Rolling Stones playing Glastonbury has almost overshadowed an already amazing lineup of musicians. Scheduled to play on the main stage this year is another music legend Elvis Costello. You can get the full rundown of who is performing and on what stages here.
After Jagger broke the news via Twitter, fellow Stones band mates Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards also talked about their excitement. Wood said, via The Guardian, "I've been using all my persuasive charm on the boys for a few weeks now, really pleased to be doing it, can't wait to be getting out on that stage at Worthy Farm." While Keith Richards said, "We all had such a ball last year, and the energy between the band is so good, we can't wait to play Glastonbury, see you on a summer's day in England."
This is great news for Stones fans and music fans in general as this summer is looking to be a music lovers dream.
