Kate Middleton, 'Game of Thrones': HBO Star Natalie Dormer Compares Her Season 3 Character to Pregnant Duchess and Princess Diana
HBO's fantasy show "Game of Thrones" is full of royalty, so when comparing them to the real royals of today, who would you say is most like the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton? Well, according to one of the stars of the show, Natalie Dormer, it is her character of Margaery Tyrell who was recently betrothed to Joffrey Barathean, the young king of the Iron Throne. Dormer also draws comparisons to the late Princess Diana, Kate's mother-in-law to whom Middleton herself has often been compared.
In a recent interview with the cast of "Game of Thrones" conducted by Vanity Fair, the 31-year-old Dormer shared her theory on Margaery's connection to Middleton:
"Margaery is very much concerned with court machinations, and what you can expect from her is a whole new angle in the power play. She brings a bit of modern P.R. into the situation. She brings a bit of Lady Di or Kate Middleton into the situation, and she tries to court public opinion. So she's all about the phenomenon of being a politician, kissing babies and looking after people in order to get respect. So it's quite a modern take, really, on celebrity and power play."
Luckily, the Duchess does not share too much in terms of personality in comparison to Margaery, who has one goal in mind: the throne.
Prior to starring in "Game of Thrones," Dormer was on HBO's "The Tudors" and received acclaim for her portrayal of Anne Boleyn, the mother of Queen Elizabeth I whom the current Queen is named after. In other words, Natalie has some ties to royalty and it looks like she is trying to keep them. She was also in Captain America: The First Avenger.
What do you think of Dormer's claim? Can you draw any more royal comparisons between the real world and the "Game of Thrones" realm?
