Daft Punk 2013 Tour Update: Duo Not Performing at Coachella Festival this Summer, No Tour Dates Announced Yet to Promote 'Random Access Memories' Album
It looks like Daft Punk has joined the parade of artists that will not be performing at the Coachella Festival this summer. Okay, so it isn't a "parade" of artists, but the rumors of the Rolling Stones performing hasn't come to fruition and Lou Reed just pulled out. So news that Daft Punk will not be performing at the California music festival is another blow to an otherwise strong lineup.
There were rumors floating around the Internet that Daft Punk would make a special appearance at Coachella in 2013 to promote their new album Random Access Memories. However, a representative of the band tells Rolling Stone magazine that those rumors are false. The representative said simply, "Daft Punk is not performing at Coachella this year."
It's too bad because with the French duo's new album set to be released May 21st, the timing of the summer festival would have been perfect. Random Access Memories is set to be the band's first album since their 2005 album Human After All. The new album is currently available for pre-order, but as of right now there doesn't seem to be any news of tour dates. Disco legend Nile Rodgers is supposed to be appearing on the new album.
Even with the recent announcements of artists not appearing at this year's Coachella Festival, the lineup is still impressive. Among the artists set to appear at the Coachella Music Festival are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blur, Stone Roses, Phoenix, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wu-Tang Clan, and the Postal Service. The festival occurs this April 12 to 12 and then again April 19 to 21.
