What Russian Fans Will Do For Revenant Actor Leonardo DiCaprio & His 2016 Academy Award!
As the Academy Awards are quickly approaching, everyone can't help but wonder if Leonardo DiCaprio will finally bring home the bacon. Dicaprio has been nominated many times, but always went home empty-handed after giving outstanding performances. It has made him a popular subject of gifs, memes and posts on social media. Fans feel like Leonardo's been subjected to an injustice and some of them are willing to do anything just to give him his award, or even just the golden statue, for that matter.
According to Vanity Fair, diehard Leonardo DiCaprio fans in Siberia, Russia are preparing just in case he does not win for his performance in The Revenant. Preparing for their worst case scenario, female fans are donating their gold and silver jewelry for "Oscar For Leo" campaign. The jewelry is to be melted down then used to make DiCaprio's very own and undeniably special Russian version of an Oscar statue.
This campaign has an estimated cost of around $1,300 US dollars. Russian fans feel so passionate that they are willing to destroy valuable possessions. In this way, they would also feel more connected to the actor. For example, some fans are donating one of their earrings and then keeping the other. This way, they'll have something that Leo also has.
Presently, Leonardo has already been nominated for the Academy Awards five times. This includes his major role Hugh Glass in The Revenant. To date, with all of his awesome performances all through his career, he'd yet to receive his Oscar win. With The Revenant, it's been known that the actor went through an extreme style of filming. He even subjected himself to intense weather conditions and scenarios during filming, including eating raw meat, crawling up to animal carcasses and filming in freezing water. The movie was filmed chronologically and also used natural lighting, which practically implies that it added more time and money to the production.
Now do you think the Russian fans will have to give the custom made golden Oscar statue? Or will Leonardo DiCaprio finally win this time?
