Legend Magic Johnson Tries to Recruit Peyton Manning to the Rams on 'Tonight Show'
Peyton Manning quarterbacked the Denver Broncos to a Super Bowl Championship over the Carolina Panthers. Most people expect that it was the last game he'll ever play in the NFL. But just in case it's not, former Los Angeles Lakers star Magic Johnson is slipping in a few kind words. OK, that may be putting it lightly; he was actively recruiting Manning during a recent Tonight Show appearance.
The two legends appeared on an episode of The Tonight Show together Wednesday night with Jimmy Fallon. Naturally, sports were discussed. With the Rams recent relocation from St. Louis back to Los Angeles, Johnson was one of the first people to reserve season tickets for the team. Apparently determined to see Manning play again, Magic took the opportunity to talk Rams and turned it into a recruiting pitch in an attempt to get a certain quarterback to play one more year.
"I tried to talk somebody out of retirement and come to the Rams," Johnson said, not so discreetly hinting toward Manning. "I said, 'Man, if you play again, come to the Rams.' I was working on him backstage. I will even chip in some money."
Magic and Jimmy laughed boisterously--as if they were having the best time--and Manning sat quietly, his face growing more and more uncomfortable with every passing second.
"I'm getting embarrassed," said Manning.
Later in the show, Manning and Johnson partook in a game rich with history and tradition: Egg Russian Roulette. It's basically played as it sounds.
While the two-time Super Bowl Champion, and five time league MVP, hasn't officially announced any decision regarding his future, he has almost certainly played his last game in Denver (the organization is ready to move on with Brock Osweiler). Although, the Rams have stated their interest in Manning previously, and with Magic's endorsement, who knows--anything is possible.
