Janelle Monae 'We Are Young' Singer Glows on the May 2013 Essence Magazine Cover [PHOTOS]

Diddy protégé, Janelle Monaé and her famous pompadour grace Essence Magazine for the first time.  The unique artist, who won her first Grammy Award for Song of the Year, with "We are Young," is coming out of her indie shell and into the mainstream

Janelle revealed to Essence that she made a conscious decision to not use sex appeal to sell albums. "Showing my skin is not what makes me sexy," Janelle told Essence. "I like skirts and dresses just like everyone else, but I had a message I needed to put out there. It was up to me to show people and young girls there was another way."  People don't ask Jay-Z to take his shirt off when he rhymes."

Mstarz just reported that Jill Scott is on the May 2013 cover of Ebony Magazine talking about her sex appeal as well.  Hopefully, wearing clothes to cover your lady parts will be the new trend this Spring.
