'The Voice' Shakira Demanded Disney Her 'Zootopia' Cartoon Character's "Hips Don't Lie"

Colombian pop star Shakira, who sang to women's bodies with "Hips Don't Lie," has just released her first voice work for an animated film, playing pop star Gazelle in Disney Animation Studios' Zootopia. Now, as the movie makes its way into everyone's hearts with mad critical success, the singer reveals she demanded Disney that her character have a positive body image for children.

According to E! Online, during the Zootopia premiere, the Colombian superstar shared with reporters about the time when she was first approached for the role. She realized the character had been drawn as unrealistically slim. Of course, Shakira wasn't having it. So she demanded Gazelle to become wider in the hip area; so she'd have more curves.

Just as her real-life Latina counterpart, now the gazelle (who's in fact named Gazelle) struts around a bigger and more realistic set of hips.

"I feel like her and I have a common denominator," Shakira explained during the world film premiere in her hometown of Barcelona, The Independent reports. "When the directors told me about her I said 'That is me', but she was too slim so I asked them to give her more curves and put more meat on the bones. She needs bigger hips so she has them now."

The singer, who'd never done voice work in the past, was impressed with the way things were done in the medium, starting with how she was convinced the animation came before the voice work; when it turns out it was the opposite.

These days, Shakira is preparing to get back to music after a short pause, as she had her second child with Barça soccer star Gerard Piqué just one year ago. Before that, she's getting her new song from Zootopia, "Try Everything," rolling.

There's also rumors about her possible return as coach in The Voice.
