No Mark Ruffalo In 'Captain America: Civil War'? Anthony Mackie Clarifies "Hulk" Statement
Anthony Mackie recently made headlines when it appeared that he had confirmed an ongoing rumor: Mark Ruffalo is part of the cast of Captain America: Civil War and will probably appear as The Hulk. However, the Triple 9 star has just clarified his statement about Bruce Banner's alleged cameo in the movie!
Mackie was recently a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers, where the host asked him about his spoiler comment.
"It's so ridiculous!" Mackie said before explaining what happened. "I was giving respect to my fellow actors. I said Marvel movies are so great because they have great actors -- the likes of Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr." At this point, an audience member hooted and Mackie addressed him, "Love that guy," he said.
"People take that to mean that I'm saying this is what the movie is about, and this is in the movie," he concluded.
He may seem unhappy about being misquoted, but Mackie had no problem joking about keeping Marvel secrets.
"The first rule of Marvel? Don't talk about Marvel," he told Meyers. "I don't know what you're talking about. I'm not even in the movie."
Just last week, Mackie had allegedly namedropped Ruffalo during a discussion about Civil War and other Marvel Cinematic Universe films. The unexpected mention of the actor's name has led to speculations that Mackie had meant that Ruffalo will appear in the third Captain America movie.
Although there is a lot of confusion about Mackie's comment about Ruffalo, it is clear that the Civil War star is proud of the film.
"I feel the best Marvel movies thus far have been Winter Soldier and Iron Man and I think this movie far surpasses those two movies," Mackie told IGN.
Captain America: Civil War will mark the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. The film will premiere on May 6.
