The story that has divided the nation on the guilt or innocence of Manitowoc residents Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey is far from over. Word on the street is that another intriguing season of Making a Murderer is on its way.

Netflix's series has changed how the nation views law enforcement. Avery and Dassey may finally be able to clear their names from the heinous crime.

In the first season, we watched as Avery, who was wrongly convicted of rape, was freed after spending over 18 years in federal prison. In the midst of getting his life back on track, Manitowoc County residents and the nation was shocked to discover that he and Dassey would be facing trial for the rape and murder of photographer Teresa Holbach. Although there were tons of questionable evidence, the court wasted no time finding Avery and Dassey guilty.

According to Variety, Laura Riccardi and Moira Demos, the directors of the docuseries, are currently prepping a follow-up season. During a Stranger Than Fiction panel discussion at New York's IFC Center, Riccardi and Demos said that they have spoken to Avery's new lawyer Kathleen Zellner about filming and have been continuing to follow Avery and his developments.

"From our prospective this story is obviously not over, Riccardi said. "It's real life and Avery's and Dassey's cases are both still pending. We have no idea when the magistrate will make a decision in Brendan's case. We do know that two potential outcomes are that the judge could order Brendan's release or he could order a new trial. So we are on the edge of seats about that. To the extent that there are significant developments, we would like to continue documenting this case."

While we are all overjoyed with excitement to see how the rest of the story unfolds the news doesn't come as much of a shock. Zellner has previously spoken out via social media stating that law enforcement made so many wrong turns that led Avery to be wrongfully convicted.

While there has been tons of press about another trial for Avery, there still is no news about Dassey who is currently imprisoned at the Green Bay Correctional Facility in Wisconsin.
