'The Walking Dead' News: AMC Goofs NYT Ratings Ad, Lists 'Modern Family' on FOX and 'The Voice' on ABC, Mislabels Networks, Issues Statement
With the success of AMC's "The Walking Dead," which just recently recorded ratings records for its season 3 finale, any little slip up will get a lot of attention. "The Walking Dead" hasn't done a lot wrong when it comes to being a successful TV show, the zombie drama is one top rated series in the key 18-49 demographic. AMC's money maker has even beat out hit shows like "The Big Bang Theory," "American Idol," "Modern Family," and "The Voice." You can't blame the network for wanting to brag about this and point it out to everyone in advertisements. However, when you mess up the networks the other shows are on in the New York Times ad you run, then your open to ridicule.
AMC decided to put out a full-page ad in the NY Times, displaying the shows rating dominance over other popular shows on other networks. The ad shows the ratings for the 18-49 demographic, highlighting "The Walking Dead's" 5.6 rating, which tops the list. Following "The Walking Dead" is "The Big Bang Theory," "American Idol," "Modern Family," "The Voice," and History Channel's "The Bible." The only problem is that the ad accidently mixed up the networks listed on the page, which said "Modern Family" was on FOX and "The Voice" was on ABC. This is obviously incorrect, as "Modern Family" is an ABC comedy, while "The Voice" is an NBC show.
After Entertainment Weekly posted the error on their website, AMC issued a statement saying, "It appears our fact checking department was overrun by zombies. We have the utmost respect for these shows and networks." At least the network has a sense of humor about the issue. In the large scheme of things the blunder will be forgotten rather quickly, especially once the fourth season starts up again and fans just want to know what will be happening in the latest episodes.
