Hip-hop heads rejoice! De La Soul is returning to the game after a nine-year absence with a new single titled ""Get Away (feat. the spirit of Wu-Tang)." DLS is releasing the singles independently through YouTube and social media as part of a "new single a month" expirement celebrating the 25th anniversary of De La Soul.

Maseo, the DJ of the group didn't mince words when talking about the state of current hip-hop.

"It's pretty much reflecting on the state of hip-hop at this moment. Everything is redundant. Everything sounds the same. No real lyrical content. Everybody's just doing business, not really creating."

However, he has confidence in the single.

"I think it's a great record to reintroduce ourselves with," he said.

"Get Away" samples a skit from Wu-Tang Forever and the group shot a music video for the single last month. De La Soul have focused on touring since their last release, 2004's The Grind Date.

Maseo says that the group has no plans to put out an album in the near future.

"I think putting out those singles would be more impressionable than dropping an album at this present day in music," Maseo explained. "It's about trying to just creatively have a bunch of songs in the stable. You have to consider a lot from the administrative standpoint in the release of a project. I see the song that we're putting out being the perfect B-side - with a video this time."

Maseo did add that the group will eventually release the long-awaited album, You're Welcome.

He also says that the band has expressed interest in making soundtrack albums, a la Shaft by Issace Hayes, as a means of forcing the band to push through an album.

"It's long overdue. Trust me, man, it disgusts me how long it takes for us to make a record," Maseo said with a laugh. "Out of all the time we take, we are always happy with the finished product."
