Macklemore & Ryan Lewis 'Thrift Shop' Breaks Billboard Chart Record, Beats DJ Khaled's 'I'm The One'
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' ode to bargain shopping "Thrift Shop" is an absolute monster, and it doesn't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. The track just broke the record for longest running #1 rap single on Billboard Magazine's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at 12 weeks. The spot previously belonged to DJ Khaled- who, it can officially be said, is no longer the best- and his track "I'm On One".
Thrift Shop will have to hold on for three more weeks to tie the all-time recordholder, Mary J. Blige. Her 2006 song "Be Without You" from The Breakthrough sat at the top spot for 15 weeks and eventually netted her a Grammy.
"Thrift Shop" is also enjoying its sixth week at number one overall on the Billboard Hot 100 (though, not consecutively). The single is actually the fifth from the duo's 2012 album The Heist, but it is by far the most successful and the first to gain major radio airplay.
The rest of the Top 10 looks like this:
2. Justin Timberlake- Suit & Tie
3. Drake- Started From The Bottom
4. Lil Wayne- Love Me
5. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis- Can't Hold Us
6. Rihanna- Pour It Up
7. A$AP Rocky- "F*ckin Problem"
8. Wale- Bad
9. Ace Hood - Bugatti
10- Alicia Keys- Girl on Fire
Eagle-eyed readers may have noticed another Macklemore and Ryan Lewis song creeping up the charts. "Can't Hold Us" was released before "Thrift Shop" but has seen a recent upsurge due to the subsequent track's popularity.
What do you think? Are you tired of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop" yet? Does it deserve to unseat Mary J. Blige? Do you think there are other tracks on The Heist that are more deserving?
