Gina Torres Joins ABC Pilot 'The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez' By 'Agent Carter' Producers

Gina Torres has made a career of playing strong, badass women, from her iconic role as Zoe Washburne in Joss Whedon's Firefly and its film sequel Serenity all the way to her current role of Jessica Pearson in Suits. She's just landed a pilot for ABC, from the producers of Agent Carter!

According to The Mary Sue, Torres has been cast in the title role of The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez, a series co-produced by Michael Fazekas and Tara Butters, both of who work on Agent Carter and are currently working on the Captain Marvel comics.

If the pilot is picked up to series, Torres will still remain on Suits for at least the next season, fulfilling her six-year contract obligation.

In any case, Deadline describes The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez as "a sexy revenge drama with a supernatural twist and MacBeth with a Cuban twist," helmed by Cuban-American playwright Charise Castro Smith.

The premise of the show sounds a little like a tamed version of Scarface: Torres will be playing a Cuban immigrant in Miami, who throughout her life went from rags to riches, but her ambition gets the better of her as mounting conflict arises, including taking vengeance on an ex lover. The character has been described as a "modern-day Havana-born Cleopatra," which sounds just the way Torres' best characters have always been.

Torres is a television veteran at this point. Besides her work in the sci-fi favorite Firefly and her current stint in Suits, she's also had recurring roles in multiple other shows, including the iconic 90's series Xena: The Warrior Princess and Hannibal, where she played the wife of her real-life husband, Laurence Fishburne.
