Will Peter Capaldi Remain With Chris Chibnall's 'Doctor Who' After Steven Moffat Departure?

It's no secret that Peter Capaldi has been planning to leave Doctor Who for some time now, especially after it has been announced that showrunner Steven Moffat will depart from the show after its tenth series. However, Capaldi has just confirmed that he has been asked to stay with Doctor Who after Moffat's departure! But will the Twelfth Doctor stay with the BBC series?

Capaldi recently spoke to Radio Times, where he revealed that he has been requested to stick around after Moffat's 12-episode season in 2017.

"I've been asked to stay on, but it's such a long time before I have to make that decision," Capaldi admitted before adding that he enjoyed collaborating with Moffat for the past 2 years.

"Steven's been absolutely wonderful, so I love working with him," he said, adding that he also admires Chris Chibnall, who will be taking over Doctor Who after Moffat.

"Chris is fantastic, and I think he's a hugely talented guy," Capaldi said of the next Doctor Who head writer.

But will Capaldi remain as the Twelfth Doctor after Moffat leaves in 2018? The actor confirmed that he is currently undecided, since he is still uncertain about the future of Doctor Who.

"I don't know where the show's gonna go then," Capaldi said. "I don't know. I have to make up my mind, and I haven't yet."

It is still unclear what will happen to Capaldi's Time Lord after Series 9 since the season ended with the Doctor being without a Companion following the death of Clara Oswald (Jena Coleman). However, there are speculations that the Doctor's new Companion will be none other than his wife River Song (Alex Kingston), who was reunited with Twelve in last year's Christmas Special.

Moffat's final Doctor Who series is expected to begin production in late 2016.
