After the tragic news of Pastor Rick Warren's son Matthew Warren's suicide death was released, Twitter, Facebook and netizens around the world shared their prayers and condolences towards the Warren family. A precious photo of the Pastor Warren's family, wife, and children was posted by the Gospel Coalition in memory of the youngest Warren son.
According to Huffington Post, Pastor Warren wrote an email to the Saddleback Church family in Lake Forest, California, sharing his sorrow and asking for prayers.
“No words can express the anguished grief we feel right now. Our youngest son, Matthew, age 27, and a lifelong member of Saddleback, died today.”
"Over the past 33 years we've been together through every kind of crisis. Kay and I've been privileged to hold your hands as you faced a crisis or loss, stand with you at gravesides, and prayed for you when ill. Today, we need your prayer for us."
Warren shared intimate details about young Warren's lifelong battle with depression. Despite the best medical treatment and counseling, it was still difficult for him to overcome "dark holes of depression and even suicidal thoughts."
Pastor Warren's email continued, "I'll never forget how, many years ago, after another approach had failed to give relief, Matthew said, 'Dad, I know I'm going to heaven. Why can't I just die and end this pain?' but he kept going for another decade."
