'WrestleMania 29' Results: 2013 WWE Show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey Breaks Records, Snooki and Michael Strahan in Attendance, Diddy Performs, Rock Versus John Cena Winner
The Super Bowl of wrestling, WrestleMania, finally happened last night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Sunday night the WWE hosted "WrestleMania 29" in front of over 80,000 fans and broke numerous records. WWE sent out a press release announcing "WrestleMania 29" became its highest grossing live event in WWE's history while also breaking the record for MetLife stadium's highest grossing entertainment event. Oh, and there were some pretty good wrestling matches as well. Who ended up winning the epic rematch between The Rock and John Cena for the WWE Championship? Keep reading to find out.
Before the official pay-per-view started The Miz defeated Wade Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship. We also find out Snooki is in attendance. You can see Snooki and her husband, as well as Michael Strahan are in the audience seated behind the announcers. The show also featured a live performance from Sean "Diddy" Combs.
The night opened with The Shield against Sheamus, Randy Orton, and Big Show in a six-man tag match. There was a lot of good back and forth action and this was one of the better matches of the night. Towards the end of the match Sheamus reached his hand out and Orton stole the tag away from the Big Show, angering the giant. Orton ended up getting speared by Roman Reigns allowing Dean Ambrose to make the pin. While this was happening Big Show just stood on the apron and didn't break the count, allowing The Shield to win. After the match Big Show punched out Sheamus and Orton.
Mark Henry faces Ryback in the next match of the night. It was an okay match, but rather slow as you can imagine. Ryback gets Henry up for the Shell shocked, but Henry holds onto the ropes and falls on Ryback getting the pin. After the match, Henry comes back in the ring as referees are attending to Ryback, but Ryback ends up Shell shocking Henry in an impressive display of strength.
Team Hell No beat Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston after Daniel Bryan pinned Ziggler. It was a good back and forth tag match, but another loss for Ziggler. Fandango makes his long awaited in ring debut against Chris Jericho. It was actually a good match, but it looks like they messed up the finish when Jericho overshot Fandango with his Lionsault. Fandango ended up rolling up Jericho for the win.
Zeb Colter and Jack Swagger did one last heel promo to try and rile up the crowd before his world title match against Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio defeated Swagger after making him tap out.
CM Punk faced Undertaker next in what will probably go down as the match of the night. Great match with a lot of close calls. Punk kicked out of a tombstone and even got Undertaker in his GTS finisher. In the end, Undertaker pinned punk to keep the streak alive and improve to 21-0.
Probably the next best match of the night was Brock Lesnar against Triple H. They wasted no time hitting each other with chairs and going through tables. It was an entertaining match with a lot of brutality, but in the end Triple H pinned Lesnar after putting him in the Pedigree on the steel steps.
The main event between John Cena and The Rock was a big disappointment in my opinion. The match was mostly just each guy attempting to put on his finisher or trying the other guy's finisher. They teased Cena and Rock both showing up the other guy and almost losing the match because of it. I thought this was a below average match and not nearly as good as their match at last year's WrestleMania. Cena ended up getting the pin after getting the Attitude Adjustment on The Rock. They shook hands and Rock had his moment with the fans in the ring afterwards. To end the show, Cena saluted Rock atop the ramp and Rock saluted him back. I think it was kind of cheesy, but that it was a feel good ending for everyone.
What did you think of "WrestleMania 29?" Any of the finishes surprise you?
