5 Reasons To Read Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo's 'Batman Vol. 8: Superheavy' From DC Comics!

DC Entertainment changed the status quo in the New 52 Universe with Batman Volume 8: Superheavy. This is the perfect opportunity to check out the beginning of Police Commissioner Jim Gordon's new role as DC Comics' The Dark Knight from writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo.

As we previously mentioned, in Volume 7: Endgame, the Dark Knight had an epic confrontation with his arch-nemesis, the clown prince of crime. As their battle to the death continued, Bruce Wayne, along with The Joker, sustained serious battle scars and lost large quantities of blood. The conclusion of Endgame promised nothing would ever be the same in Gotham City ever again. Someone has to step in and fill the void of a world without Batman.

We have 5 reasons why you should read Batman Volume 8: Superheavy here:

5) Somebody Different But Familiar!

This isn't the first time someone else stepped up and took on the Bat mantle. Remember Knightfall when Jean Paul Valley (Azrael) become The Batman who started killing people! This is Jim Gordon, who never backed down and stayed true as a good cop. We know Gordon's not going to choke under pressure like when Dick Grayson dressed up as the Bat.

4) A Fresh Sense Of Humor!

It was really getting bleak when The Joker infected everyone in Gotham City with his poisonous laughing gas and turned them into zombies. Snyder isn't aiming for the funny bone. He does liven up the dialogue with Gordon's sardonic dry wit. Jim's idea of Batman is to bring hope to the citizens of Gotham and bring back the idea that the system works.

3) Mr. Bloom's Scary!

Known for his horror comics, Wytches and American Vampire, Snyder knows how to dish out the terror. Adding a new super villain to the DC Universe, Snyder and Capullo have given Gordon a terrifying arch-nemesis. The former Spawn artist mixes together The Slender Man urban legend with slasher movies to create the terrifying Mr. Bloom.

2) Two New Bat Costumes!

Capullo just lets loose on his imagination as he designs two new Batman costumes. First you have the high-tech Batsuit filled with James Bond-type gadgets. Then you have the black ninja outfight that Gordon wears when he walks his beat. This is the first time I can actually say Batman with a gun actually works.

1) The Bob Kane Tribute

Synder and Capullo bring back an old-school character readers may have forgotten about. Introduced back in 1939's Detective Comics #31, Julie Madison happened to be The Batman's first love interest and Bruce Wayne's fiancee. It's so interesting to see how Julie Madison is brought back into the fold for modern readers.

Batman Vol.8: Superheavy arrives in stores on March 16.

Readers, are you excited to add this volume to your Batman collection?
