Amber Heard, the star from films like Magic Mike XXL and The Danish Girl and best known for being Johnny Depp's wife, has officially taken a role in one of the biggest superhero franchises in Hollywood: the DC Cinematic Universe. Heard has just confirmed rumors that she'll be playing Mera, Aquaman's love interest, in the Jason Momoa-starring film, reprising the role in Justice League!

Heard confirmed the rumors of her DC role on Entertainment Tonight Canada, saying she'd be introduced as the Queen of the Undersea (who eventually becomes Aquaman's wife) in the 2017 film Justice League Part One, later playing the role again on the 2018 stand-alone Aquaman film. Besides officially confirming her involvement in the growing franchise, Heard also revealed a little bit about her "interesting" costume.

"It's interesting. It's like, half suit of armor, half scales," said the actress. "It's strange... We're in the process of building it now, so it's coming along."

For now, it's unclear whether Heard's Mera is already Aquaman's wife by the time we first meet her or if there's going to be a rebooted love story involved.

Aquaman will make its first appearance in the DC universe on this month's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, played by Game of Thrones alum Momoa, whom you might know as Khal Drogo; the character, however, hasn't appeared on any of the trailers for the movie, so it's unclear how big his part will be in the story.

According to Coming Soon, this will be the first time Aquaman appears on the big screen, and only the second iteration on a live-action adaptation, even though it's one of the oldest characters in the DC Universe, first appearing in comic book form in 1941. The only time the character has been portrayed by a live actor was on superhero reboot series Smallville, played by Alan Ritchson, with Mera being played by Elena Satine.

The Aquaman movie is scheduled for a July 27, 2018 release date.
