Ashley Judd, Mitch McConnell [VIDEO]: Senate Minority Leader Said Actress is 'Mentally Unbalanced' After Career in Politics Rumor
Mitch McConnell has taken some big steps to discourage actress Ashley Judd from starting a political career and therefore running against him in the election for Kentucky Senator. In February, McConnell released a smear campaign ad, attacking the actress in a preemptive strike against her. Though Judd did allow the media to think that she was entertaining the idea of moving into politics, she has since confirmed that she has no interest. But today, video has surfaced featuring McConnell attacking Judd's state of mental health.
In the video, which was obtained by Mother Jones' Washington bureau chief David Corn, you can hear the Senate Minority leader talking about his possible challenger Judd. He says:
"This is the Whac-A-Mole period of the campaign...when anybody sticks their head up, do them out."
Then his leading aide says, "I refer to [Judd] as sort of the oppo research situation where there's a haystack of needles, just because truly, there's such a wealth of material."
This unnamed aide continued with:
"She's clearly, this sounds extreme, but she is emotionally unbalanced. I mean it's been documented...you know, she's suffered some suicidal tendencies. She was hospitalized for 42 days when she had a mental breakdown in the '90s."
When referring to Judd's state of mental health, the aide added:
"Like I said, you know, we're still drilling down and there's a wealth of material, and it's just hard to get all the way around it."
Here is the video evidence of McConnell and his aides talking about the possibility of Judd running against him, which, again, ended up not happening:
