'Beauty and the Beast' Movie Gaston Luke Evans Had an Awesome Sing-Off with Hugh Jackman
Next year, Disney will be releasing an all-star live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, and it will be a musical like the animated film and the Broadway show that followed it with Emma Watson playing Belle. Luke Evans will be the one playing iconic villain Gaston in the film, and the Hobbit actor has just proved his worth in the role in a sing-off with Hugh Jackman on the Jonathan Ross Show!
Last Saturday, Evans and Jackson were on Ross's show alongside Taron Egerton, Shazia Mirza and Primal Scream. To hype up the Disney villain, Ross decided to have a sing-off between the two actors, both of who have played Gaston in the past (Jackman on stage in an Australian production), and the rest of the guests were playing back voices in an amazing Gaston-off.
The two sang, of course, Gaston's title song, where his feats are described by sidekick and often-victim LeFou, a character that will be played by Frozen alum Josh Gad in the live-action version.
In any case, both Evans and Jackman took some huge beer mugs and sang their hearts out playing the Disney baddie, and while Jackman was as top-notch as he usually is (let's remember this man has two Tonys and one Oscar nomination for a musical), Evans was an amazing surprise. The actor, who obviously had to spend months rehearsing to play Belle's most unpleasant suitor, stole the scene.
So far, Disney hasn't released any footage of the upcoming film, but the cast is downright extraordinary. Aside from Watson, Evans and Gad, also included are Downton Abbey alum Dan Stevens as the Beast, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Stanley Tucci as Cadenza, Ewan McGregor as Lumière, Kevin Kline as Belle's father Maurice and Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts.
The upcoming Beauty and the Beast live-action remake will be on theaters on March 17, 2017, so it'll probably be a few months until the first teasers are shown.
