'Gotham' Season 2 Spoilers: Twitter Reacts Robin Lord Taylor, Paul Reubens' Penguin Twist!
Season 2 of the Batman prequel series, Gotham, continues on Fox. Twitter had lots to say about the shocking twist between gangster Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) and the mysterious Elijah Van Dahl (Paul Ruebens)!
In our previous recap, Bruce (David Mazouz) went solo on his quest for vengeance. After a run-in with Jerry (Lori Petty), Bruce stood face-to-face with Matches Malone (Michael Bowen). Knowing he isn't a monster and just a tired, old man, Bruce refused to pull the trigger on him. After Malone's suicide, Bruce went off into hiding with Selina (Camren Bicondova) as he searched for some meaning in Gotham. Elsewhere, Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) was released from Arkham while Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) is becoming The Riddler.
In our recent recap, Nygma hatched an elaborate plan to bring down Gordon before he could investigate Ms. Kringle's disappearance. Jim unfortunately found himself framed for a murder that he never committed. Elsewhere, at his mother's grave, Penguin met the father he never knew he had, Elijah (Paul Ruebens). As Gordon was transferred to Blackgate, Penguin was welcomed home by his father and new family. Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) is the only one left who can prove Gordon's innocence.
In an interview with Parade, Ruebens describes his role, "It's not something that I really viewed as playing it again. It was 20 something years ago. It's quite a number of years ago I did that. It was one day's work and very, very quick. This is really almost nothing like it. It didn't feel like I was revisiting anything, but it was exciting to have a lot of people around me going, "Oh my God, you were already this character." It's a very different story, different character, and a lot of time in between, so it didn't seem so much like I was repeating anything."
