Rob Ford Dead at 46: Former Corrupt Toronto Mayor Loses Battle With Cancer
MStars News has learned that former corrupt Toronto mayor, Rob Ford, has died at the age of 46. According to the Toronto Star, Ford lost his battle with cancer.
The Toronto city councillor became a viral hit after a drug scandal hit the web back in 2013. Video surfaced showing the mayor drunk and allegedly smoking crack cocaine. He ended going into rehab.
Ford battled a form of abdominal cancer for 18 months. During his time of illness, he tried a number of treatments but the uncommon cancer was too aggressive. He was diagnosed back in 2014. During that time he was trying to get get re-elected as mayor.
Ford leaves behind widow, Renata Ford and two young children, Stephanie and Doug Ford.
A statement from the Ford family confirmed his death. Part of the statement said that Ford was "A dedicated man of the people, Councillor Ford spent his life serving the citizens of Toronto."
The family noted that they would not be making anymore comments or talking to the media at this time.
After news of his death started spreading on Tuesday, politicians and others who knew him decided to speak out.
"I have known Rob Ford for many years. He was a man who spoke his mind and who ran for office because of the deeply felt convictions that he had," Mayor John Tory said, while adding: "His time in City Hall included moments of kindness, of generosity to his council colleagues and real efforts to do what he thought was best for Toronto. He was, above all else, a profoundly human guy whose presence in our city will be missed."
