'Captain America: Civil War' Star Don Cheadle Teases James Rhodes/War Machine's "Death"
The Marvel flick Captain America: Civil War might be about the conflict between Chris Evans' Steve Rogers and Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark, but that doesn't mean that the film will not have other important casualties. One of the characters that has repeatedly been teased to get a major injury in the movie's trailer is James Rhodes aka War Machine, who is seen lying unconscious with his arc reactor blown off while Tony seethes with anger. But is it possible that Don Cheadle's War Machine will get killed off in Civil War?
Cheadle recently spoke to New York Daily News, where he addressed the possibility of his character being one of Civil War's rumored fatalities.
"I'm on Twitter, so I've gotten a few people going, 'Rhodey better not be dead, son. I'm going to be so mad.' Or 'I'm done with this thing if Rhodey's dead,'" Cheadle admitted, although he did state that he appreciates the fans' reactions.
"That's cool, I like that people get so upset about it," he said. "I like that in a Marvel movie people are able to evoke such emotion."
But has War Machine finally fought his last battle alongside Iron Man? Cheadle seems to agree.
"It does look bad for Rhodey," he concluded.
There are speculations that Rhodey might still survive to help out in Avengers: Infinity War, since most characters who have been thought dead (e.g. Agent Coulson, Nick Fury) have made some surprising recoveries in the past (Coulson went on to star in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. while Fury faked his death in Winter Soldier to return in Age of Ultron). Still, Civil War might need to find a way to get Tony to really hate Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and the second trailer has already suggested that Bucky is responsible for War Machine's injury.
Will Rhodey survive his injuries? Find out when Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6.
