MAD Magazine Cartoonist Al Jaffee Sets Guinness World Records 2016 At 95 Birthday Celebration

MAD Magazine has continued "The Mad Fold-In," a feature found on the inside back cover of virtually every issue, ever since 1964. Not only was the artist celebrating his his 95th birthday,  MAD Cartoonist Al Jafee achieved another 2016 milestone with Guinness World Records

As we previously mentioned, artist Al Jaffee celebrated his 95th birthday this Sunday, March 13th. The renowned artist has been with MAD for over 61 years. The Savannah, Georgia native is known as the mind and hands behind the iconic "Fold-In" of the New York publishing institution. This makes him the publication's longest-running contributor to the satirical magazine. A Reuben Award winner in 2008 and Eisner Hall of Fame recipient back in 2013, Jaffee will receive the prestigious Medal of Honor from the National Cartoonists Society in April. 

According to the official DC Entertainment website, friends and colleagues were gathered at the at Sardi's restaurant in New York City. In the city that never sleeps, the birthday ceremony was emceed by MAD Editor-in-Chief John Ficarra. Because the MAD cartoonist still  produces the famous fold-in page at the back of each issue, he was presented with a certificate by Guinness World Records.

What did the Guinness World Records bestow upon the artist? The living legend now holds the record for the longest career of a comics artist at more than 73 years. The New York City Mayor's Office even sent an official Proclamation marking March 30th as "Al Jaffee Day" in the Big Apple. 

Adding a touch of nostalgia, DC Entertainment presented the longest-serving contributor with some of his original 1960s drawings elegantly framed for the event.

Describing the illustrious event, Al mentions in a few memorable words, "It felt like family." 

Al Jafee continues to make achievements in his long-standing career, especially after landing on the Guinness World Records.
