'The Expendables 3' News: Casting Rumors, Wesley Snipes Offered Role? Sylvester Stallone Considering Mel Gibson to Direct New Movie?

For action movie fans "The Expendables" was a Hall-of-Fame lineup of action movie stars. Sure, the majority of them were well past their prime, but there had never been a collection of movie action stars in one film like this before. The Sylvester Stallone brain child combined the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, and Dolph Lundgren. News is already coming out surrounding "The Expendables 3" which is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2014. The latest rumor surrounding the director opening may have some people shaking their heads. Could Mel Gibson be directing the star studded movie?

It seems like there is no limit to the number of action stars who can star in "The Expendables." In the second film, Stallone added action stars like Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and even Chuck Norris. So who is left? Rumored to be in the third film are Jet Li, Jackie Chan, and even Wesley Snipes. According to reports, Stallone wants Snipes to join the cast for "The Expendables 3."

So who will be directing this cast of action stars? Well, if you follow Stallone on Twitter you may believe Mel Gibson is a possibility. The former "A" list actor has had a tough time getting jobs since his real life drama made headlines. However, that didn't stop Stallone from bringing up the possibility to his Twitter followers. Stallone first asked his followers about Gibson directing "Expendables 5," before tweeting, "No , I was kiddiing about , but seriously , what about Mel Gibson directing EXPENDABLES 3? Opinions anyone ? Curious....."

This could be nothing more than Stallone throwing out a name and seeing what kind of reaction it gets, or maybe Stallone is seriously considering Gibson as the director of "The Expendables 3." Gibson is set to play the villian in another action film, "Machete Kills" due out later this year. Gibson also has directing experience with the last film he directed being 2006's "Apocalypto."
