‘Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams Does Not Like the Word Feminist?
Maisie Williams recently revealed that she is against people using the word "feminist" when "sexist" seems more appropriate.
Game of Thrones Season 6 will premiere on April 25, 2016. Millions of fans are eagerly waiting to know the fate of Jon Snow but the released trailer also showed how Arya Stark has gone blind. In all the earlier seasons, Arya has been portrayed as a young and rebellious girl. Williams, who plays Arya, shares the same characteristics.
In all the Game of Thrones earlier seasons, we have seen how Arya knows to stand against the evil and if she finds herself incapable of doing the right thing, she at least tries and learn a new thing. Being a young girl, who has no sibling in contact, Arya is among those characters from GoT, who has the power to change the course of the story. By the teaching of her late father, Ned Stark, she has learnt that everyone in a kingdom is equal and has similar rights. Williams shares the same belief.
In a recent bold interview with Entertainment Weekly, 18-year-old Williams talked about her views on treating people equally without the base of their caste and race. The English-born actress also stated that she wishes that her fans should stop using the term feminist and use the word sexist if someone does not believe in treating both men and women equally.
"I realized everyone is not a feminist, unfortunately. But I also feel like we should stop calling feminists 'feminists' and just start calling people who aren't feminist 'sexist' -- and then everyone else is just a human. You are either a normal person or a sexist."
But at the same time, Williams admitted that there are several moments in her life when she wants to speak about some social issues but she fears that she will be bashed by women on social media as "there are women who are just nasty."
Apart from reprising her role of Arya in GoT Season 6, Maisie will be seen playing the role of Isabel Baxter in an upcoming Irish-English romantic film, A Storm in the Stars. It was reported by Deadline that on March 2, 2016, Maisie has joined the ensemble cast of A Storm in the Stars and will be sharing the screen with Elle Fanning, Ben Hardy and Joanne Froggatt.
