Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt starrer Edge of Tomorrow has finally got the awaited sequel. With Warner Bros backing the sci-fi film, it looks like Doug Liman will again helm the project to direct Edge of Tomorrow 2.

Edge of Tomorrow was a 2014 American science fiction film which was adapted from a Japanese novel, All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. The film takes place in a future where mother Earth is invaded by an alien race. Bill Cage (played by Cruise) is ordered by his superiors to film the first wave of a crucial landing operation against the alien race. However, Cage is being killed in combat but soon he finds himself in a time loop that sends him back to the day before the battle.

The film was made against a budget of $175 million dollars and according to Box Office Mojo, it has a worldwide collection of $370 million dollars. So, based on the massive box-office success, it was speculated by fans that Warner Bros will surely make a sequel of it. In 2015, Christopher McQuarrie, screenplay writer of Edge of Tomorrow, told Collider that Cruise had an idea for a sequel, and that the concept is "locked and loaded."

Earlier it was reported by Variety that McQuarrie will direct the Cruise and Blunt starrer but McQuarrie later confirmed via his Twitter handle that in the upcoming sequel that he will only serve as a writer and Liman, the director of the first part, will direct the sci-fi film.

So far, the sequel has yet to get an official confirmation from the team and the plot details are still unknown. There are rumors that Cruise and Blunt will reprise their roles, but so far, neither has confirmed. At the same time, there are no details on when the movie will start production or its estimated release date but it seems to have created enough buzz among the fans.
