'Thor 3' News, Rumors, Spoilers: Natalie Portman Out & 'Creed'' Tessa Thompson Ragnarok Cast
Natalie Portman's Jane Foster won't be joining the cast of next year's sequel Thor: Ragnarok, but there's already talk of a new love interest for the superhero/Norse god played by Chris Hemsworth: Creed star Tessa Thompson! In the latest spoilers for the Taika Waititi film, it seems like Jaimie Alexander's Lady Sif has been sidelined yet again for another woman.
Deadline reports that Thompson has just signed up for the Disney film and will become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe come 2017. While her role hasn't been specified as of yet, it has been qualified as a "love interest" for Thor -- even though last time audiences saw the character, he was competing with Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark on which of their girlfriends was better in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Thompson's character "will be a kind of superhero" and won't only appear in Thor, but in other MCU films as well -- could we be talking about an upcoming Avenger who'd face Thanos in the Infinity War movies?
Before filming Ragnarok, Thompson will be co-starring with Thor franchise actress Portman on Alex Garland's Annihilation. She'll also star alongside Anthony Hopkins (Odin) in HBO's upcoming sci-fi series Westworld some time this year. Thompson has been landing more and more major roles since her Creed breakthrough role as Bianca and her 2014 role in the Oscar-nominated film Selma.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Portman won't be reprising her role as Jane Foster, though the reason wasn't specified. Still, considering the film has been described as "a universal road movie" by co-star Mark Ruffalo, chances are Thor won't even be on Earth during this film, which could explain Jane's absence.
A few days back, Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that Thor: Ragnarok would see the start of the Infinity War, so the film will certainly mark a major event in the MCU.
Thor: Ragnarok will reach theaters on November 3, 2017.
