Detroit Lions Signs 'Kickalicious' [VIDEO]:Norwegian kicker, Havard Rugland SCORES NFL Contract from Viral Video?
Left footed Norwegian kicker Havard Rugland, known virally as "Kickalicious,' has signed a contract with the Detroit Lions, Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com announced on Twitter.
According to Yahoo Sports, The Lions were one of several NFL teams to take a closer look at the 6-foot-2, 245-pound Rugland. Rugland, 28, has been working with former NFL kicker Michael Husted in California and Florida this offseason and The New York Jets and Cleveland Browns also worked out with the Internet kicking sensation.
He's got great potential," Husted told the Los Angeles Times in March. "On the other side, you need more than that. You need connections and to have a little bit of luck on your side. I always tell people that there are kickers who were better than me who did not make it. I was fortunate to have a nine-year NFL career."
Rugland's trick shot viral video garnered over 3 million views on YouTube.com since September 2012.
The Lions are in the market for a kicker for the first time since 1992 after Jason Hanson announced last week that his 21-season career was over, Yahoo Sports reported.
Rugland has no American football experience, however he had a tryout with the New York Jets in December, NFL.com reported.
Rugland was a social worker prior to coming to the U.S., Baxter said. He also played amateur soccer in Norway.
The terms of the contract have not been released on The Lions end or from Jill McBride Baxter, Rugland's agent. However, Twentyman retweeted a quote, could hold some truth.
