FX The Americans S04E05: Clark's Place Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys' Premiere Recap

FX continues with the Season 4 premiere of The Americans. In episode 5, Clark's Place, will Elizabeth (Kerri Russell) and Philip (Matthew Rhys) Jennings be able to keep their family safe as they go deeper undercover?

Martha (Alison Wright) takes off her shoes and sits on her couch, drinking red wine. Philip/Clark finally shows up at her place and apologies for being missing the past two days. He hasn't even checked his answering machine. She did everything Philip told him, which led to a panic attack and her taking Valium. 

Elizabeth wakes up scared when Paige (Holly Taylor) enters her bedroom. They talk about Stan Beeman's visit and Pastor Tim. Elizabeth doesn't want to tell her about anything she does, but Paige wants answers. 

Philip reveals what Martha has told him and suspects they're not coincidence. Elizabeth says Stan noticed they were gone. Pigs needs to make up with the FBI agent and fast. At FBI headquarters, Stan (Noah Emmerich) learns Martha is having an affair with a married man. Stan debates about the gun Martha has, even though he knew about that.

As Elizabeth continues her own undercover mission, Nina (Annet Mahendru)'s funeral is taking place. With Ronald Reagan on the news, Elizabeth finally arrives at home. The parents mention to their daughter that they're going to have a talk with Pastor Tim.  

Elizabeth and Philip meet with Pastor Tim and his wife. The two bring in a refugee who they helped out before. Pastor Tim though remains silent in the end, thinking about the cover story. Philip and Elizabeth wonder if the person they brought in was really a priest.

The parents try to calm down Paige's nerves, asking her to trust Pastor Tim again. Oleg (Costa Ronin) receives condolences as he returns back to to the Center. Oleg knows that Nina was killed but his boss defends the execution, sating it was done on purpose.

Philip gets the warning  call and sets up his disguise as Martha is being followed. While Martha is waiting for the elevator, Philip is heading down the stairs. Martha is already inside Clark's place when Philip leaves through the back, dodging her tail.

Paige wonders why her parents want her to forgive Pastor Tim. This is all confusing to her; she's part of an adult conspiracy. Philip though wonders who has been following Martha and if the mission has been compromised. 

Martha calls Philip's number, gets someone else on the line. Philip and Elizabeth tell Gabriel (Frank Langella),that Martha is being followed. The surveillance reports are important, but if Martha makes another move, it will lead to handcuffs. 

Oleg then tells Stan that Nina has been killed. The two mourn for her death. Philip tells Martha he loves her but he cannot see her. Stan's kid isn't too happy hanging out with Henry. Elizabeth is worried about her son hanging out with a grown-up but Philip's mind is adrift. 

Philip apologizes to Stan and patches things up. Elizabeth notices the agent's car is the same one tailing Martha. She then has sex with her husband while Stan is on his stakeout.
