'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Spoilers: Lena Headey Talks Cersei Lannister's Walk of Shame!
One of the more fascinating pending storylines of Game of Thrones season 6 is the aftermath of Queen Mother Cersei Lannister being forced to do a Walk of Shame throughout King's Landing. While the scene was one of the most powerful in the HBO series, actress Lena Headey reveals she received a lot of criticism over her decision to use a body double.
Though Headey's performance as the conniving Queen earned her an Emmy nomination last year (in part surely because of that scene), there were many who criticized her acting chops because she decided not to get naked --- and she's hitting back now.
"I've done nudity. I'm not averse to it. But I know I'm a very emotional actor and I get really driven by that. In order to do my job, I allow myself to be really vulnerable. I don't know any other way to do my job," Headey told Entertainment Weekly. "Things really affect me. And the thought of being naked for three days and trying to contain her in the way she would be I think I would feel very angry. I didn't want to be angry. I don't think Cersei would be angry. I did what I thought she would do, emotionally."
Headey also said one of the factors that prompted her decision not to do nudity was that she was thinking of her children and thought it was "too much" on top of everything. She also pointed out that she hadn't hand picked her stand-in Rebecca Van Cleave because of her "hot body," saying she'd had no saying in her casting.
Still, as it was revealed last year, the two actresses worked together to create the very difficult scene.
For all three days of shooting, Headey was there helping out Van Cleave, as the two created a style of movement that would blend in together wellthrough special effects. During the scene, Headey did the same walk though only wearing a beige robe. And then Van Cleave's body and Headey's face were later blended together.
Game of Thrones will return to HBO next Sunday.
