'The Winds of Winter' Update: George R.R. Martin Claims He Has "Pages" for Sixth 'ASOIAF' Book
Game of Thrones Season 6 is about to premiere this Sunday, but there is still no update on whether George R.R. Martin is anywhere close to finishing The Winds of Winter. Although the A Song of Ice and Fire author has already announced that he is still unsure when he will be done with the sixth book, fans can't help but wonder if he has added any new pages at all. Now, Martin has confirmed he does "have pages" for the new novel!
Deadspin editor Tim Marchman has just written about sending an email to Martin, where he enquired as to whether Martin "has pages." The inquiry explained that Marchman is "trying to settle a bet" and even enticed the writer with "inside Jets/Giants info."
Not surprisingly, Martin had a positive response.
"Of course I have pages. I had pages five years ago. How anyone can believe I don't defies belief," he wrote, adding that there are several "sample chapters" from The Winds of Winter.
"I've posted three different sample chapters on my website over the past few years, and read another four or five chapters at cons," Martin concluded.
It is certainly nice to know that there are "pages" out there. However, as Marchman points out in his article, Martin's response does not confirm whether these are "new pages" or pages that we haven't already read in sample chapters. Perhaps the best thing about the author's answer is that we still know he is capable of writing, even if it is just a short email. Hopefully, Martin will continue to work on more pages until they can be put together to create a novel.
The sixth season of Game of Thrones will premiere on HBO on April 24. The actual publication date of The Winds of Winter is still as ambiguous as Jon Snow's fate.
