Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Gets Amazon Series: John Krasinski Takes Chris Pine Role!
Three years after The Office aired its last episode, Emily Blunt's husband John Krasinski is returning to television -- this time for an Amazon Studios series! The actor who gave life to Jim Halpert on NBC will now play Tom Clancy's spy Jack Ryan, a role that has been played by four other actors on the big screen, most recently Chris Pine.
According to Deadline, the 36-year-old actor has been officially cast to star as the CIA agent on an upcoming Amazon series project that will be produced by Paramount TV. So far, other people attached to the new Jack Ryan iteration include Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse as well as writer Graham Roland and Armageddon director Michael Bay, who recently directed Krasinski on 13 Hours.
So far, the new Jack Ryan is intended as a straight-to-series project: while Amazon hasn't officially greenlit the project yet, it's believed casting such a big name in the lead will smooth the process over, not needing a pilot to convince studio heads of the project's validity.
It remains unclear how many episodes the thriller series would have, but chances are the concept of the series could be something similar to the Kiefer Sutherland-starring 24.
As Variety reports, Clancy's character has been adapted a number of times on the big screen with five films and four actors playing Ryan: Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger), Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears) and Pine (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, a reboot of the saga).
If greenlit, the Krasinski-starring version would be the first time Jack Ryan reaches the small screen.
Since The Office ended, Krasinski has continued to work on film and television, although playing smaller roles instead of leading ones, except for the recent 13 Hours. He's also one of the executive producers behind Spike smash show Lip Sync Battle.
