Magic Johnson's son, Earvin Johnson Jr. came out of the closet dressed in women's attire holding hands with his boyfriend on Sunset Boulevard in LA April 2013, now the 20-year-old New York Student is speaking out for the first time.
EJ, spoke to "Gwissues" host and interviewer Howard Bragman (who's also his publicist) about coming out, social media criticism, and having his family's support.
EJ told Bragman that he came out to his family and friends five years ago, and that the TMZ video "was like coming out again."
"Reliving the experience has just been both exciting and interesting rather because I've been through it but to have the media involved is just different but I'm reveling in it, Earvin Jr. said.
Following the media frenzy surrounding Magic Johnson's gay son, EJ admitted to extreme social media backlash and relied on his family for support. When he came out to his parents, mom, Cookie told him "she had known and always would love him anyway."
"I am very, very, very blessed to have the family that I do. My parents have always been super supportive," he told Bragman. "My sister and I have always been really close and she's been really supportive as with my brother. When it was time to come out, I was, obviously, scared as most people are. After I got all the love and support from my family then I knew I could go out and conquer the world, I guess."
With the support of his parents and family EJ has found his calling into the "spotlight" as he said that he would love a talk show and to be the voice for young gay people.
