'Blade Runner 2' Casts Mackenzie Davis in Harrison Ford & Ryan Gosling Sequel
Next year, the classic sci-fi film Blade Runner is getting a sequel, and besides its original star, Harrison Ford, so far the cast for the movie looks more than interesting, including the likes of Ryan Gosling and Robin Wright -- and now, an alum from another Ridley Scott film: The Martian actress Mackenzie Davis is the latest star to join Blade Runner 2!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Davis is the latest actress to join the film, which will be directed by Sicario filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. It seems likely it was Scott who put in the good word for Davis for this film, considering he's also involved behind the camera in Blade Runner 2 -- though he won't be directing, as he'll be too busy with the Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant, which is currently filming.
Davis, 29, has so far focused her career mostly on smaller, independent films, including roles in the Daniel Radcliffe-led What If and the star-filled That Awkward Moment. Audiences will also recognize her for her role in the AMC 80s tech drama, Halt and Catch Fire, alongside Lee Pace and Scoot McNairy.
Details of the still-untitled Blade Runner sequel are being kept under wraps, and the only detail that's known so far is that the story will be set a couple of decades after the original, from a screenplay written by Hampton Fancher (who co-wrote the 1982 film) and Michael Green, from an idea by Fancher and Scott. The original film was based on Philip K. Dick's sci-fi novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
The sequel is set for an October 2017 release date, so it will be fresh in the memory of voters when it's time for big award shows.
Production for Blade Runner 2 is set to begin in July, with Warner Bros. distributing in the North American market and Sony Pictures doing taking on that job overseas.
Ford will be reprising his role of Rick Deckard, as he's currently going through a stage of reprisals, returning to some of the most iconic roles of his career: he played Han Solo for one last time in last year's box office smash Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and he's set to play Indiana Jones for a fifth installment in the summer of 2019.
Other Blade Runner 2 cast members include Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, Carla Juri and Sylvia Hoeks.
