Seth MacFarlane, 2014 Oscars: 'Family Gus' Star and Host of 2013 Academy Awards Asked Back for Next Year's Ceremony

It looks like, despite some controversy over this year's Academy Awards, Seth MacFarlane did a good enough job at hosting the 2013 Oscars that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has asked him back for the 2014 awards shows. The "Family Guy" creator has not accepted the inviation yet but 2013's producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are already confirmed for 2014.

According to a few sources, Seth has indeed been invited back:

"After defending his performance, the producers reached out to Seth and invited him back to host the show again," the sources explained. "He's not sure if he's going to do it, but he has to decide within the next couple of weeks."

Even before this year's ceremony, MacFarlane said that hosting the Oscars would be a "one time thing." And after the 2013 Academy Awards, he responded "no way" to a Twitter inquiry about hosting again.

The original reasons behind MacFarlane's hesitation to host again were his busy schedule and multiple projects. The "Family Guy" creator is set to release a new film, A Million Ways to Die in the West and also has a sequel to Ted coming along sometime soon. He even has a new television series called "Dads" in production.

There is always a chance that he might change his mind, though. After all, this year's ceremony was pretty successful.

According to a report by SlashFilm:

"MacFarlane's stint as Oscar host attracted some controversy, especially due to his use of sexist jokes, but ratings-wise he was a success. Nielsen ratings indicated that the overall viewership was up 3% from the Billy Crystal-hosted festivities in 2012, with an even bigger increase in the coveted 18-34 demo that he was hired to attract. If MacFarlane turns down the gig, don't be surprised to see AMPAS reach out to other edgy, young-skewing comedy types to get the job done."
